Is Taylor Kinney dead? Chicago Fire death hoax spreads online
Taylor Kinney going silent on social media has gotten people into a fervor. Lots of actors have left Chicago Fire for good or for long periods of time, but it’s the fact that Kinney’s departure is so shrouded in mystery that he’s gotten so much more attention. Good and bad.
The good is the support that fans voiced to both him and the rest of the Chicago Fire team when it was announced that Kinney would be taking a “leave of absence.” The bad has surfaced through an online death hoax that spread in April 2023.
Is Severide dead on Chicago Fire?
The hoax, which started on Facebook, came complete with a message that gave a time and date for the actor’s supposed demise. The message read:
"“At about 11 a.m. ET on Saturday (April 08, 2023), our beloved actor Taylor Kinney passed away. Taylor Kinney was born on July 15, 1981 in Lancaster. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”"
It definitely came as a shock to fans who hadn’t seen the actor post in several months, and who was quickly written off Chicago Fire with an unclear return date in mind. Fortunately, the obviously false nature of this report were able to shut down the rumors and confirm that its unequivocally false.

Kinney is alive, well, and focusing on whatever personal matter led to him briefly leaving the show. Chicago Fire has gone out of their way to keep his character, Kelly Severide, on the minds of the other characters, especially Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), so its clear that the writers have plans to bring him back and incorporate him into the future plans of the show.
Chicago Fire has also been renewed for a 12th season, so if all goes according to plan, Severide (and Kinney) will be in the mix.
