All three Law and Order shows renewed for 2023-24 season
It’s a good day for Dick Wolf Productions and NBC. The production company and network have reached a renewal agreement on six different shows; three of which belong to One Chicago and three of which belong to Law and Order.
Granted, all six shows exist in the same universe, but Law and Order is the senior franchise of the two, dating back to 1990. The original Law and Order, which returned in 2022 after a decade long hiatus, will be coming back for a 22-episode season, as well Law and Order: SVU, which remains the most popular title in the franchise.
Is Law & Order: SVU renewed for 2023?
Law and Order: Organized Crime has also been renewed, despite being the youngest title in the franchise. It will be returning for a forth season, which will consist of 13 episodes. This is great news for fans of the individual shows and the franchise as a whole, as it means we will have a better chance at scoring another crossover event with One Chicago.
Mariska Hargitay, the star of Law and Order: SVU, issued a statement to Variety after the show had been officially renewed.

"“All of us at SVU feel honored to be able to continue telling these essential stories, and we are proud that the family we’ve become has grown stronger, bolder and more united with each season,” she wrote. “While we have seen significant changes in our culture, injustice persists and too many voices still go unheard. That cause is as much mine as it is Olivia Benson’s, and I gather strength from knowing that the longest-running drama series on television is one that elevates women’s stories, and the stories of those in our society who have been marginalized and harmed.”"
Hargitay has been playing Olivia Benson for 21 seasons, which makes her the longest running prime-time live-action character of all time.
The record was previously shared by Marshall Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke and the title character on Frasier (factoring in his previous run on Cheers). It looks like we’ll be getting plenty more of her and the rest of the Law and Order family moving forward.
