Taylor Kinney returns to IG after leaving Chicago Fire!
He’s back! Well, in a matter of speaking. Taylor Kinney is still MIA on Chicago Fire, after announcing he would be taking a leave of absence, but the actor has returned to social media after several months of silence.
Kinney, who has not posted on his Instagram account since December 2022, appeared on the IG of his girlfriend, Ashley Cruger, to celebrate Easter! The photos Cruger posted see the couple kissing and goofily posing with sunglasses on. The caption doesn’t make any mention of Kinney appearing and simply reads: “Happy Easter.”
Needless to say, fans in the comment section were thrilled to see the actor back in the mix and looking happy despite his Chicago Fire hiatus. Unlike most actors who step away from the show, whether it be permanent or temporary, Kinney has not discussed his decision for leaving in any interviews or via social media.
The same goes for showrunner Derek Haas and the rest of the cast. Nothing has been said about Kinney’s absence except to acknowledge the absence itself. While it can be a little confusing to determine when Kinney (and by extension, Severide) will be back, the lack of explanation or discussion does support the idea that he will be back sooner rather than later.

Easter marks the first time that Kinney has appeared on Cruger’s Instagram since September 2022. The two made their relationship public last year, when they both attended the Operation Smile’s 10th Annual Celebrity Ski and Smile Challenge benefit. They were also seen kissing on the red carpet, confirming that the they were romantically involved.
Cruger even appeared as a background player in the season 11 premiere of Chicago Fire. She can be seen holding a drink next to Kinney during the episode’s final scene.
While the details surrounding Kinney’s leave of absence on Chicago Fire remain vague, fans can at least take solace in the fact that he appears happy as ever on social media.
