Is a new episode of Chicago PD on NBC tonight? (April 12)
Chicago PD has been on a consistent roll in recent weeks. The show reached 200 episodes, and delved into some pretty heavy storylines involving the likes of Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Upton (Tracy Spiridakos).
The last few episodes have even put Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) in harm’s way, as he’s gone undercover with an organization who is planning a series of Chicago-based attacks. With all these various stories going on, fans are understandably eager to find out what happens.
When will new episodes of Chicago PD return to NBC?
Unfortunately, we will all have to wait to find out. Chicago PD, along with Med and Fire, are going on hiatus for the rest of April. There will be no new episodes until Wednesday, May 2, and all three shows will air their season finales on Wednesday, May 24.
While it’s certainly a bummer to have to wait so long, a rep for NBC explained that this is standard operating procedure with hour-long dramas. “This is normal scheduling for the Chicago shows,” they told TV Line. “You need a balance of original and encore episodes so that the season can run from September through May.”

The scheduling conflicts of each show also has to be taken into account. Chicago Fire will have to film later than PD due to the recent departure of Taylor Kinney. Fire will continue production well into May, while PD will have wrapped production by the middle of May.
There hasn’t been a title or an official synopsis released for the new episode, but we do know that it will be released on May 2 due to the promo that aired at the end of the last episode. The promo will likely continue to follow Ruzek’s undercover mission, but the real focus appears to be on Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) and the investigation of a case that appears to have a connection with his father.
