What’s going on with Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo)? Things were tense between the couple before Severide left Chicago Fire, and now that he’s gone, Kidd has struggled to adjust to being on the job alone. Is there an unspoken reason why?

Select Chicago Fire fans seem to think so. A seemingly innocuous exchange between Kidd and Cruz (Joe Minoso) has led some to theorize that Kidd may actually be pregnant, and unsure as to how to break the news to Severide, who is in the middle of arson investigation training.

Is Stellaride going to have kids on Chicago Fire?

The exchange occurred in the episode “Acting Up”, and started off with Cruz talking about the difficult time he’s had juggling work duties with raising two young boys. Kidd provided sympathy, but she also wrapped up the chat with a comment that seemed cryptic… or at least, emblematic of things to come. “I don’t have to deal with the kids part,” she said. “… yet.”

Hmm. Could she had slept with Severide when she went and visited him? It can be difficult to tell how much time passes between episodes, or events that take place within the same episode. The attack on Severide and Kidd during their honeymoon was followed by a time jump of a few weeks, as was the recovery time for Kidd after she was caught in a house explosion and required surgery.

Objectively, a pregnancy would be a very strong reason for Severide to come back to the 51. He hasn’t really voiced a desire to have children in the past, as Kidd has been the more obviously parental of the two, but news of a pregnancy would be a great opportunity for the writers to delve further into Severide as a character, and the strained relationship he had with his own (late) father.

it’s not yet clear when Taylor Kinney, and by extension, Severide, plans on returning to Chicago Fire. The writers have left his status vague due to this lack of clarity, but if given the chance, we could definitely see the show going down the pregnancy road as a means of testing the couple and sending on the next chapter in their lives together.
