Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) is in danger. The Chicago PD character is on an undercover mission to snuff out a domestic terrorism group, but the latest episode suggests that his cover may be not be as secure as he thinks.

Ruzek has historically been eager to dive into undercover work, and he’s proven to have a knack for it, but recent interviews from the actor who plays him suggest that he may be losing a step or two in the field.

Is the character in danger? Should we be concerned for Ruzek as the season 10 finale approaches?

Is Patrick John Flueger leaving Chicago PD season 10?

“I think he’s exhausted,” Flueger told NBC. “And I think it’s starting to wear on him that what he’s undercover for, it’s not for one individual. It’s for this possible mass attack. So I think it is weighing on him as things go forward.”

This split between personal and professional makes sense for the character. Ruzek recently bonded with Burgess (Marina Squerciati) in such a way that suggests their romance may be rekindled.

Throw in the fact that Ruzek has been supporting Burgess through her therapy and helping to raise Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams), and it’s no surprise that he may not be entirely focused on the mission at hand. The risk, of course, is that this lack of focus will cause him to slip him and put his life in danger.

Ruzek has been struggling with his professional calling over the last few seasons. He’s seen men he idolized fall victim to the system, and corrupt themselves, so being able to get the job done and save lives will go a long way in restoring his faith in the IU. If he’s caught, or worse, injured, it may add to the sense of dilillusionment.

We seriously doubt that Ruzek will leave in the season 10 finale, but we can see a world where he is either taken hostage or seriously injured, forcing Voight (Jason Beghe) and the rest of the IU to spring into action and rescue him.
