Is 911 canceled? (911 season 7 renewal status)
By Cody Schultz
As the month of May is upon us, viewers have been growing increasingly curious about whether 911 will be returning for another season as they look to what’s to come after this May’s season finale.
The show’s success has been driven by its thrilling plot, dynamic characters, and realistic portrayal of emergency situations which have captivated audiences with its high-stakes action and emotional storytelling, making it one of the most popular shows on FOX.
Considering 911 remains FOX’s most-watched and top-rated scripted offering, one would assume the show would be a shoo-in for renewal. However, FOX has been known for making interesting cancellations over the years canceling shows despite their ratings.
Is 911 renewed? (Is 911 season 7 happening?)
So here’s what you need to know: 911 season 7 is happening; however, there is a major twist that we need to discuss. While a seventh season has been ordered, it came after the show was technically canceled.
In what can only be described as one of the most unusual events of the year, in announcing that FOX had canceled 911 after six seasons on the network, it was revealed that ABC had renewed the show for a seventh season. This means another season will be coming our way, just on a different network as the show makes the jump from FOX to ABC for the 2023-24 season.

The cancellation at FOX was the result of budgeting. When the show was first ordered to series by FOX, it was when FOX and studio 20th Television were part of the same company. When Disney acquired 20th Century FOX back in 2019, it acquired 20th Television but not the FOX network. Because of this, FOX no longer has the same financial stake in the show which has become quite costly with a reported budget of $9 million per episode.
As the show is still a major success (it ranked as FOX’s most-watched drama of the season again this year), ABC was quick to step in to save the show by handing out a seventh season to the show and becoming its new home.
