It’s a big month for Chicago Fire. The firefighting drama will be back on NBC after taking a month off, and it will be airing its season 11 finale. There’s a lot to wrap up in the season’s four remaining episodes, but the biggest mystery remains the fate of one Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney).

Severide left abruptly and without a concrete release date. The other characters on the show have addressed this, especially his wife Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), but as long as the details surrounding the season finale remained scarce, there was hope that the character would return.

Is Taylor Kinney in the Chicago Fire season 11 finale?

Well, we’re finally getting details for the finale, titled “Red Windfall”, and it appears as though Severide will not be playing a part in it. The synopsis has been released by NBC, and it teases some developments in the lives of nearly every character except Severide. It reads as follows:

"“Brett waits for life-changing news; Herrmann encounters a psychic with a grave warning on a call; Kidd finds a new lead on the Homeland Security case.”"

Not a great sign. Within a day of the synopsis being released, Deadline put out a piece confirming that the character will not be present in the episode. There was no actual statement made by the Chicago Fire producers, Kinney, or Kinney’s representatives, so the reason behind his absence remains unknown.

The fact that Kinney, and by extension, Severide, will be missing from the season finale means that fans will have to endure the entire off-season without knowing of the fate of the character. Hopefully some details will come out from Kinney himself, but if not, then the season 12 premiere will be the first time that his extended absence will be addressed.
