Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) is always getting into trouble. From talking back to superiors to getting caught in explosions with superiors, the character always seems to be at the forefront of the most dangerous Chicago Fire subplots.

Not much changed in the latest episode, titled “Take a Shot at the King.” Carver was one of the firefighters who went into a burning building, and discovered that his arms began to itch. When it was determined that something corrosive was in the air, they were ordered to keep their masks on.

Did Sam Carver die on Chicago Fire?

Carver, however, prioritized saving a woman in the building over his own safety. The character tried to help the woman find an exit, but the corrosive chemical caused her to act erratically, and she knocked his mask off in the process. Carver breathed in fumes before he could exit, and he was immediately rushed to the hospital as a result.

Things looked pretty dire for both Carver and the woman once they arrived to the hospital. In the case of the latter, it looks as though significant damage was done. Thankfully, Carver had a quick recovery. Once he was exposed to oxygen on the outside he started breathing much better. It’s another case of the character having a brush with death and making it out on the other side unscathed.

Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) was obviously relieved to find that his firefighter was in decent health, but Carver’s incident did set off a chain reaction where Boden went up against Chief Valencia in an effort to change firefighter policy and ensure that incidents like this don’t happen again. This eventually led up the chain to the city’s treasurer, Don Ramsey, who visited Carver in the hospital and pretended to care about what happened to the firefighter.

Things aren’t over between Boden and the city brass, but we can at least be thankful that Carver made it out of his experience in one piece (once again).
