Chicago Fire season 12: Will Severide & Kidd break up?
It’s been a tough season for couples on One Chicago. Dylan Scott (Guy Lockard) left Chicago Med after losing his loved one, and Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) basically doomed his marriage when he decided to leave Chicago PD. Then there’s Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo), the newlyweds who were forced to part ways on Chicago Fire.
They parted ways because Severide decided to enroll in an arson investigation program. It’s not unlike the program that Kidd promoted on the road in season 10, and the effect the time away has had on their relationship has been pretty similar too.
Will Severide & Kidd divorce on Chicago Fire?
Kidd has gone to visit Severide during his program, as she revealed in a random aside to Cruz (Joe Minoso). This was a positive sign, but there hasn’t been any other mention of Kidd and Severide seeing each other since the latter left.
Then there was the bombshell announcement that Severide would not be in the season 11 finale, which is an episode many fans were anticipating with the hopes that it would be the character’s homecoming.

The absence of Severide raises some pretty big questions about Taylor Kinney’s involvement with the show, and whether he has plans to appear in season 12. It’s been unclear when he plans to return to the show, and the further we get down the line, the less likely a return seems.
If Severide doesn’t come back (a huge “if”, admittedly), and the showrunners decided that they want to keep Kidd on as a centerpiece character, then one can’t help but assume that their union will end in divorce. There’s not really a way around it otherwise, though it would be a tremendous blow to the seasons and episodes that were dedicated to them getting together.
