Chicago Fire has done lots of character swapping in season 11. Characters we thought we’d see in every episode have gone MIA, and ones we thought we’d seen the last of in season 10 are back to play crucial roles in new episodes.

The promo images for the latest episode, “Never, Ever Make a Mistake”, have been released, and they reveal that yet another character is back in the mix after missing a handful of episodes in the current season.

What happened to Kylie on Chicago Fire?

The character in question is Kylie Estevez (Katelynn Shennett). Kylie’s had one of the quieter arcs on the show since being introduced in season 8, but it’s proven to be one of the most consistent. She was a Windy City local who got interested in the Girls on Fire program that Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) established, and was one of the program’s first graduates.

Since then, we’ve gotten to see her develop a father-daughter bond with her boss, Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker), and it was Kylie’s resourcefulness that allowed Boden to realize he could move up in rank while still maintaining his office at the 51.

While Kylie usually plays a smaller role within the storyline of each Chicago Fire episode, “Never, Ever Make a Mistake” is an exception. Not only is she mentioned in the synopsis, but she will be leading one of the episodes’s main subplots The synopsis reads as follows:

"“Herrmann works on becoming a better man after Cindy’s cancer journey; Kidd bonds with a homeless victim on a call; Kylie takes her firefighter exams; a harrowing call takes a toll on Brett.”"

Kylie has appeared in 12 of the 20 episodes that have either aired or been confirmed to air in season 11.

It hasn’t yet been confirmed whether she will appear in the final episodes of the season, or whether she will be back for season 12, but one thing we can say for sure is that her screen time will likely be diminished further next year due to NBC’s desire to tighten budgets and cut down how much time the supporting cast members are used.
