Brett (Kara Killmer) underwent an emotional journey on the latest episode of Chicago Fire. The character was placed in a situation that struck a nerve, and she subsequently threatened to quit on Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) as a result.

Thankfully, the tense exchange didn’t lead to her actually quitting. Instead, it served to highlight how important the life of one of her emergency callers was to her. The call in question was from a teenager who had recently given birth to a child. The child’s health was touch-and-go due to some medical complications, but thankfully she was able to pull through.

Brett was immediately smitten with this child, and teen mother, Amber, took note of this. In other words, it feels like the show is angling towards making Brett a mother by the season 11 finale. We’ve already been informed of the fact that she receives “life-changing news” in the finale, and given the transformation she’s undergone throughout the season, it would make sense that she start a new chapter of her life exploring this previously untapped part of herself.

How Casey (Jesse Spencer) will factor into this decision to adopt is anybody’s guess. The character has been confirmed to return, and he too is looking after children, so perhaps there is a bonding over the decision to do what’s right as a guardian. Either way, we hope Brett sticks around!
