Will Halstead appear in the Chicago PD season 10 finale?

We got more Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) than we bargained for in the latest Chicago PD episode. Well, sort of. We saw instances of the character talking on the phone, even if we didn’t hear what he was saying.

Sadly, the communication proved brief, and Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) spent the rest of the episode trying to get back in touch with her husband. It was a sad but unsurprising development in their marriage, but it did get us wondering: will Halstead return for the season 10 finale?

Is Jesse Lee Soffer returning for the Chicago PD finale?

While it may seem like an optimistic question at a glance, the current state of things between him and Upton would make the hypothetical return more of an end point than a reunion. It’s clear that things between them have dwindled, and the aforementioned episode, “Fight”, ended with Upton removing her wedding ring for the first time.

It would make sense for Halstead to appear in the finale as a means of putting a bow on their time together, or at least make a vocal cameo so that fans can hear what he has to say about his poor communication skills as of late.

Soffer, who has since gone on to direct an episode of Chicago PD, made it clear that he still cares about the character and the show as a whole. He told Variety that he’s still open to the idea of coming back, especially if its in a cameo capacity.

"“Never say never,” he noted. “I still love it. I still love the fans. And I still love Halstead. Halstead’s always going to be in my blood. That’s never going to change.”"

Given the actor’s reluctance to return too quickly (he was notably absent from PD‘s big 200th episode), he may skip out on the season 10 premiere, but given that statements he’s made and the fact that he’s still involved with the show’s creative process, we maintain hope that we could hear from Halstead sooner than later.
