It does not look good for Carver (Jake Lockett) on Chicago Fire. The character was arrested for getting into a fight with a stalker named Shep (Eric Peterson), and he’s now being charged with felony assault.

The promo for the episode shows that Carver gets suspended from job at the 51, but even more troubling is the fact that he could be facing jail time for what he did. It’s a devastating storyline for a character who was just introduced this season, and it has us wondering whether we’ll have to witness him being locked up.

Is Carver going to prison on Chicago Fire?

From a narrative standpoint, it would be a tragically fitting outcome for the character. Carver has always struggled to find his footing in the 51, and based on what we’ve learned about his past, the struggle has been present elsewhere as well. He’s prone to outbursts, and he’s fiercely loyal to the people he considers his friends.

Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) is perhaps the most complicated example of one of these “friends.” They really butted heads at first, then grew to respect each other, and then the cycle has just repeated throughout the season. The two bonded over getting caught in an explosion, then Kidd hinted at the idea that she would like to get him transferred.

Kidd was the one who called Carver when the aforementioned stalker was outside her apartment, yet she’s the one who suspends him in the new episode. It’s a constant push-and-pull with them, so the idea that Carver serve jail time for doing something he thought was right would be a noble outcome.

On the flip side, losing Carver would be a big hit for a show that’s already dealing with the absence of Severide (Taylor Kinney). Carver has been the pivot point for a lot of interesting story arcs during this season, so we hope (and ultimately believe) that the character will be cleared of the charges and freed.

As for whether he will get his job at the 51 back anytime soon, that remains to be seen. It’s unclear how long the suspension will be, or if it can be revoked when Carver gets out of the legal quagmire he’s currently in. We want whatever gets us more Carver screen time.
