Another Chicago Fire episode, another Carver (Jake Lockett) fiasco. The character keeps getting into trouble, though in this latest situation, he was doing to defend his friend and fellow coworker, Stella Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo).

Carver was arrested after trying to stop a man named Shep (Eric Peterson) from breaking into Kidd’s home. The police arrived, misinterpreted the situation, and slapped the cuffs on Carver before he ever got a chance to explain himself. Now, it seems, his job is in jeopardy…

Did Sam Carver get fired on Chicago Fire?

The synopsis for the episode confirms that there will be a spotlight on the character as he navigates the consequences of his arrest:

"“Carver deals with the fallout of his arrest; Brett searches for closure with the baby she rescued; Capp weasels his way into the Firehouse 51 group chat.”"

What the synopsis doesn’t tell us, and what gets teased in the promo, however, is that Carver is looking at a suspension from the 51. The promo shows us a dejected Carver as an attorney breaks down the charges and the possible jail time the character will serve if he’s convicted. It then cuts to Kidd and Carver in the locker room, with the former announcing that Carver is suspended from his job.

It’s a heartbreaking revelation, especially since Carver is being suspended by the person that he was trying to protect in the first place. Kidd and Carver have had a fraught dynamic throughout course of season 11, as they constantly alternate between affection and opposition.

It’ll be interesting see what the suspension will do to Carver’s opinion of Kidd. The latter will also have to navigate the complicated feelings of condemning Carver, when she was the one who called him for help in the first place. Lots of tricky circumstances here.

That said, Carver has been a consistent source of interesting storylines in season 11, so we hope that he isn’t taken out of action for too long.
