Chicago Fire is on the cusp of another finale. There’s lots to resolve, including the impending reunion between Brett (Kara Killmer) and Casey (Jesse Spencer), as well as what Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) is going to do after finding out that Severide (Taylor Kinney) has not been truthful with her.

The thing is, some casual viewers are under the impression that this will be the end of Chicago Fire as a whole. We’re here to inform you that, thankfully, there’s more to come. Here’s what you need to know about the show after the season 11 finale airs on May 24.

When is Chicago Fire ending?

Chicago Fire was in fact renewed by NBC for another season. That being said, the renewal did suggest that we are entering a new stage of the show. For one, the renewal was for a single season as opposed to a multi-year deal, the way it had been done several times before.

Then there’s the matter of budget cuts. NBC has confirmed that it plans to cut the budget of each Chicago Fire episode, and it plans on doing so by limiting the number of appearances that some of the cast members make. For example, a character who usually appears in every episode will now be written out of 3-4 to cut down on the salary cost of the actor playing them.

It’s unclear how this will affect main cast members versus supporting cast members, as the network did say there would be some exceptions. There’s also the impending news regarding Severide, who left a few episodes back and is slated to miss the season 11 finale.

Neither the showrunners or the man who plays him, Taylor Kinney, has spoken up about their plans to bring Severide back, so the verdict is still out on whether we will see him return full-time in season 12 or we see him leave for good.

So is Chicago Fire ending? Not really. The show may undergoing some notable cast turnover, and some newfound budget constraints, but it’ll be around for at least another season to dazzle us.
