Molly Burnett leaving Law & Order: SVU ahead of S25
Law & Order: SVU has lost another cast member. A year after Kelli Giddish decided to walk away from the procedural drama after 12 years, Molly Burnett has confirmed that she will be leaving the show ahead of its upcoming season.
The exit was confirmed by TV Line, but anyone who saw the recent crossover between Law & Order: SVU and Organized Crime will not be surprised, as it effectively wrote Burnett’s character, Det. Grace Muncy, out of the show. Here’s what you need to know about the actress’ decision to leave.
Is Det. Grace Muncy leaving Law & Order: SVU?
The two-hour crossover, which served as the season finales for both SVU and Organized Crime, caught viewers off guard when Muncy revealed that Chief McGrath (Terry Serpico) had been so pleased with her work on the recent Elias Olsen case that he offered her a promotion that would allow her to work with a high-profile task force.
It was evident from the excitement in her voice that Muncy was going to take the gig, and towards the end of the episode, she can be seen hugging Fin and saying her goodbyes as she packs up her desk. We don’t get to see her accept the task force job, so we’re left to assume that it happened offscreen.
Burnett hasn’t publicly commented on her decision to leave, but all signs point to her getting along well and remaining friends with the showrunners and the rest of the cast.
She posted screenshots from the Law & Order crossover on her Instagram story, and the day before the two-hour event aired on NBC, she posted a photo of her in character with the caption: “Really proud of this one.”
