Is Adam leaving Chicago PD? (Chicago PD 2023 finale spoilers)

Warning: The following post contains spoilers from the Chicago PD season 10 finale.

If there is one thing that One Chicago fans have grown accustomed to when watching the season finales of Chicago PD, it’s to expect the unexpected and that the writers aren’t afraid to make shocking decisions that often put our favorite characters in the line of danger.

Entering the season 10 finale, it was clear things were about to come to a head with Ruzek’s undercover op but we never were prepared for the twist the writers threw our way as the story involving Samantha and Richard Beck.

In the later part of the season, Ruzek went undercover in hopes of snuffing out a domestic terrorism group of white supremacists planning an attack in the Chicago area. It’s been a challenging detail for Ruzek, one that he’s been struggling with from the start due to the nature of the group and the actions he must take to keep his cover from being blown.

Heading into the finale, things were promised to be coming to a head with many expecting the final episode of season 10 to bring closure to the story. As the finale began, Ruzek learned that Richard had decided to move up his planned attack which forced Ruzek to show his hand in stopping Samantha from fleeing town in hopes of getting information on the planned attack.

And this is when things begin to quickly spiral…

Does Adam die on Chicago PD?

After showing his cards and telling Samantha the truth, the Intelligence Unit arranges a deal in order to get information from Samantha. While the team chases down a lead Samantha provides, Ruzek accompanies her to pick up her son, Callum, under the guise that they’re going to go camping. She sends Callum upstairs to get his things, but he sneaks away and calls Richard, who tells him not to leave with his mother or to trust Ruzek.

When Ruzek finds Callum, he pulls a gun on him. Ruzek tries to de-escalate the situation and convince Callum to put down his gun, but his efforts fail as Callum shoots Ruzek in the chest. Hearing the gunshot, Samantha runs to the attic where she finds Ruzek bleeding on the floor and Callum holding the gun. Rather than helping him, Samantha grabs Callum and flees the scene, leaving Ruzek bleeding on the floor.

Ruzek is able to get to his phone and calls Burgess. Voight and the team make it to Ruzek and he’s rushed to the Med via ambulance to receive treatment for the gunshot injury he sustained. Our last update of the season is that Ruzek is getting treated at the hospital, with his future unclear as we don’t learn for certain whether he survives or dies as a result of the gunshot injury.

No clues are given as the season comes to an end, meaning we’re going to have to wait until the show returns to know for certain whether Ruzek is leaving or if he’ll survive his latest brush with death.
