The Chicago Med season 8 finale has aired, and now all eyes are on the future. Will there be a future? Is season 9 happening at NBC?
A lot went down in the Chicago Med season 8 finale. One of those was the exit of an OG character. Will Halstead took the fall for him and Grace sabotaging the AI program during an operation and then handed in his letter of resignation.
There was hope that sabotaging OR 2.0 would help to make MMed public again, but it seems to have gone the opposite way. Dayton has lost everything with the events that happened in the OR and now he has no choice but to sell the hospital. We just have to turn to The Resident to see what happens when greed takes over.
But will we get a chance to see what does come next for the characters? Is the series even renewed, and if it is, when could it return?
Is Chicago Med season 9 happening at NBC?
There is some good news for fans of the series. Chicago Med has been renewed for season 9. This isn’t too surprising when you consider the entire One Chicago franchise offers the strongest shows on the network.
There are some changes to come, though. Throughout season 9, we’ll see the characters less. There will be fewer episodes and not every character will appear in every episode. This is a way to save money on producing the series.
NBC is keeping the series in the fall schedule, but there are problems with predicting a return date. The writers strike continues and there’s a chance actors and more will go on strike in July. This is going to have a knock-on effect on production, which delays post-production and the season premiere. We’ll keep an eye on all updates about the series.
