Things got pretty hectic in the Chicago Fire season 11 finale. There were adoptions, engagements (possibly?) and a sniper who wreaked havoc on civilians towards the end of the episode. The 51 team were called to help bring the sniper in, and while they achieved their mission, it came with some collateral damage.

Mouch (Christian Stolte), the beloved elder statesmen of the firehouse (along with Herrmann), was hit by shrapnel during the sniper attack, and he immediately started bleeding out. The rest of the team rushed him to the hospital, but things looked dire nonetheless.

Did Mouch die on Chicago Fire?

The final few minutes of the episode were particularly heartbreaking. Herrmann (David Eigenberg) notes that Mouch looks sickly and pale while in the hospital bed, and then discovers that he is still bleeding out. Herrmann tries to wrangle some doctors to aid Mouch, but the latter flatlines before anything can be done to help him. Panic sets in, for both Herrmann and the fans watching.

So does Mouch die? Well, technically no. We do see him in very bad shape, and a flatline is about as close as someone can come to being declared dead without actually being dead, but it’s clearly the intention of the show to keep Mouch’s fate a mystery until the season 12 premiere.

Of course, we hope that the flatline is just a fluke and that the doctors are able to revive him. It would be tough to imagine the firehouse without Mouch, especially since veterans like Severide are currently MIA.

Mouch isn’t the only One Chicago character who ended the season in critical condition. A few rooms down the hall, Chicago PD‘s Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) was being treated for a gunshot wound to the stomach. PD ended on a similarly vague note, so when both shows return we will hopefully get an update on the fate of both men.
