Chicago PD didn’t pull any punches with its season 10 finale. The police procedural delivered tons of tense action scenes, and even put the life of one of its officers, Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger), in peril. The finale ended without telling fans whether Ruzek would make it, so we all have the same question: is PD renewed for another season?

It would absolutely devastating if the show ended on a note of uncertainty, especially when it comes to the potential death of a main character. Furthering the concern is the fact that Chicago PD went into the final stretch of the season without any word on whether NBC would decide to renew it.

Is Chicago PD season 11 happening at NBC?

Thankfully, the network came through in the eleventh hour. Yes, Chicago PD has been renewed by NBC, and will return later this year. While it was not the multi-year extension that we anticipated, as it was in previous dealings, it does guarantee that PD will be back for season 11.

This means that fans will get to find out what happened to Ruzek, and hopefully get some clarity as to what will become of the marriage between Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) and Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer). The last we saw, Upton had decided to remove her wedding ring, meaning that all signs are pointing to divorce.

Despite the renewal, there will be some changes in the upcoming season. Chicago PD, like the other installments in the One Chicago franchise, will be subject to budget cuts on the part of NBC, particularly when it comes to the salaries of each cast member.

According to Deadline, the network will be limiting the appearances of Chicago PD cast members, meaning actors who usually appear in every episode will miss 3-4 episodes as a means of keeping the budgets low. It’s still unclear who this new practice will apply to, and whether any characters are exempt from it.
