The previous episode of Chicago Fire left us with a lot of questions. We want answers now, but will we get them tonight, Wednesday, May 31?

There is a life on the line in Chicago Fire. After a dangerous call, one of 51’s own was injured. At first, it looked like Mouch had pulled through, but then things took a turn for the worst by the end of the episode. Herrmann rushed to get help, but things aren’t looking good for the Part-Man, Part-Couch loyal member of the team.

There is some bad news when it comes to a new episode tonight. There isn’t one. The series is officially in its summer break. Yes, that cliffhanger was a season finale cliffhanger, and now we have to wait a long time for answers.

When will Chicago Fire season 12 premiere on NBC?

We at least know that Chicago Fire Season 12 is happening. NBC confirmed this earlier this month, although made it clear that there would be fewer episodes than normal. Well, it looks like there may be fewer episodes than even initially planned.

The writers strike is still going on, and this is going to be a long one. The 2008-2009 strike went on for 100 days, and there is a chance that this one will go on for much longer than that. The longest recorded is 150 days.

Without scripts, production can’t start. And let’s not forget that the actors may end up on strike in July. With studios not talking to each other to put a proposal together for the writers (and the actors), we’re looking at episodes not being ready for September start dates. We may not even get episodes at all in 2023.

ABC already planned for a long strike with an unscripted fall and all scripted shows returning in 2024. NBC may need to rethink its own plans and follow suit.

For now, you’ll need to turn to Peacock to watch the episodes.
