Why did Liv Tyler leave 911 Lone Star?
Liv Tyler was a huge draw to 9-1-1: Lone Star when it first began. She abruptly left between the first two seasons, but why?
Michelle Blake certainly made a bang when she was introduced in the 9-1-1: Lone Star series premiere. We saw her getting arrested as she banged on the door of her sister’s ex-boyfriend’s place once again. She was sure this man was responsible for Iris’s disappearance and presumed death.
Throughout the first season, she focused on finding out what happened to her sister. In the end, it turned out that her sister was living on the streets after coming off her medication for her mental health problems. We’ve since seen Iris, who has been doing a lot better since finding a job with good insurance coverage for her meds.
After the first season, though, Michelle suddenly disappeared. We learned the character was taking care of her sister, but why did Liv Tyler actually leave the series?
Liv Tyler chose to leave 9-1-1: Lone Star
This was not a creative decision by any means. Tim Minear and co wanted to keep Tyler on the series, but life had other plans.
The Hollywood Reporter quickly explained that the decision for Tyler to leave was related to the pandemic. Tyler was commuting from London to Austin to film the series, and we know that air travel was severely impacted during the pandemic. It’s not surprising then that she chose to remain with her family in London instead of doing the commute.
The role wasn’t recast, but the paramedics did need to find a new captain. She came in the form of Tommy, played by Gina Torres. Her return to work after years of raising her twin daughters came due to her husband’s business being impacted by the pandemic.
