Chicago Fire isn’t quite sure what to do with Severide (Taylor Kinney). The character was written off the show for what seemed like a brief window, but the more time passes, the more clear it becomes that his return isn’t guaranteed.

Severide, who left to attend a training program, has aced the program and embarked on an ATF case without telling anyone, including his wife, Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo). It’s a decision that feels wholly out of character, and it echoes the complaints leveled at Chicago PD when Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) left the show.

We decided to ask the AI tool ChatGPT if Chicago Fire should continue to alter Severide out of a desire to see him return, or if it should just kill him off to preserve his character…

Will Severide get killed on Chicago Fire?

When asking ChatGPT to use the voice of a Chicago Fire fan, here’s what it said:

"Killing off Severide would undoubtedly have a significant impact on the show and its characters. It could create emotional depth and allow for compelling storylines centered around grief, loss, and the aftermath of such a tragic event. This option would provide closure for fans who have grown attached to Severide over the years. It would give them a chance to say goodbye and honor the character’s contributions to the show. The absence of Severide could also open up new storylines and character dynamics. It would force the remaining characters to adapt, grow, and explore new avenues, injecting fresh energy into the series."

While not outright advocating for the show to kill him off, the AI does make some compelling points regarding the character and the slip in quality the show could take if it spends too much time waiting for him to return. Past a certain point, the show will have to focus on the characters that remain over the ones who have left.

While the best case scenario is to have Severide return in season 12, the lack of comment from both the showrunners and the actor who plays him has us worried it won’t be happening.
