Diane Farr has been a crucial part of the Fire Country formula. As Sharon Leone, the mother of the show’s protagonist, Bode Donovan (Max Thieriot), she provided an emotional anchor and a way for the viewer to connect with Bode’s character.

That’s what makes her uncertain future so concerning. The character worsened in health as the first season progressed, and the finale saw her collapse after learning that Bode tested positive for a drug test. Is Sharon coming back in season 2? Is Diane Farr signed on to reprise her role?

Is Sharon Leone leaving Fire Country?

Thankfully, all signs point to character and actor sticking around. Sharon really did a number on her son in the final moments of season 1, as she told the parole board that he’d been dealing at Three Rock like he used to. It was an unexpected betrayal from a character who has been nothing but supportive of Bode all season long.

Farr told TV Line that she was surprised by what happened when she first read the finale script. It was not what she thought Sharon would have done, but the more time she spent thinking about it, the more she felt it added an additional layer to the character.

"“Her reaction was totally shocking to me, also. It’s so out of character, I was like, ‘Maybe this is the evolution of what happens when you actually have a drug addict in your life,'” she explained. “Watching someone lie to your face is a hard one and the only chance for survival is to let them fall down and pick themselves up.”"

The actress went on to basically confirm that she would be coming back for season 2 when she said that she hoped the complicated dynamic between Sharon and Bode would be fleshed out further.

Sharon is still battling her chronic kidney disease, as she turned down the opportunity to get a transplant, but this affliction is something that’s specific to the character. There are some fans who think that Farr is sick in real life but she’s perfectly healthy. I guess you could say it’s a testament to how convincing she is onscreen that there was any confusion at all.
