Is anyone confirmed to be leaving Chicago Fire? (2023 cast updates)
Chicago Fire gave us lots of cliffhangers in the season 11 finale. There was the impending return of Severide (Taylor Kinney), the unresolved proposal made by Casey (Jesse Spencer), and the injury that put Mouch (Christian Stolte) in the hospital.
All of these characters face uncertain futures, but given that they all play crucial parts within the show, fans be curious as to which of them will be returning, and which of them will be leaving for good. Here’s a rundown of the Chicago Fire cast heading into season 12.
Will Jesse Spencer be in Chicago Fire season 12?
Jesse Spencer may have gotten the last scene of the season 11 finale, but it’s safe to assume that he will not be a main part of next season. The actor has confirmed that he has no plans to join the main cast again, and prefers to limit his appearances to single episode cameos.
This, in essence, confirms that the character of Casey will not be part of season 12 in a substantial way. He will likely appear in an episode or two, but it will likely be to round out the character arc for Brett (Kara Killmer), rather than develop his own story.
Will Christian Stolte be in Chicago Fire season 12?
Christian Stolte had us scared when he posted a message thanking fans on his Instagram. It read eerily similar to a goodbye message, especially when the season finale aired and his character is barely alive in the hospital.

While things look bad for Mouch, and Chicago Fire has a history of killing characters off in season premieres, we’re hesitant to confirm that the character will be gone. If Stolte indeed meant his IG post to be a goodbye, than it was a massive spoiler that the showrunners would have likely taken down. Maybe we’re just being optimistic though…
Will Taylor Kinney be in Chicago Fire season 12?
The biggest question of all. Taylor Kinney took a leave of absence during the back end of season 11 and it was expected that he would return before the finale. The finale came and went, and he’s yet to return.
While the possibility of Kinney returning diminishes with time, there’s no way the writers would get rid of the Severide character without bringing him back for a proper send off. Either we get him back full-time or we get him back for a goodbye episode that’ll hit all of us in the feels. We prefer the former, of course.
We will provide cast updates as we get closer to the season 12 premiere.
