Chicago PD: Does new IG post confirm this actor is leaving?
Chicago PD left fans with quite the cliffhanger. Ruzek was shot in the stomach and left for dead by the people he was undercover with, and despite the best efforts of the IU, he ended the episode in pretty bad shape.
One Chicago loves making fans contemplate the fate of main characters, and Patrick John Flueger, the actor who portrays Ruzek, has been posting more than usual on his Instagram since the show wrapped up. This has some fans wondering whether the actor has plans to come back for the new season, or if he’s going to be MIA due to Ruzek being killed off.
Is Ruzek leaving Chicago PD in 2023?
While Chicago PD is a fall show, production does mainly occur during the summer. In years past, the show would begin filming in July so that it can meet its September release date, so all actors need to be back and in the mix by then. Well, if they’re still on the show, that is.
Based on his Instagram posts, Flueger is vacationing in London. He’s posted lots of photos from the trip, including detours to Stonehenge and photos of him visiting different pubs in the area.
It’s nice to see the actor enjoying himself after the grim storyline that his character had to undergo in season 10, especially given the mortal wound he suffered in the show’s final act.
Is his vacation a sign that he won’t be coming back? It’s worth questioning, especially given the recent Instagram presence of Taylor Kinney, who has also been sharing photos of his various trips instead of appearing on episodes of Chicago Fire.

Fortunately, all signs point to Flueger still being part of the PD cast. Given his character’s tight knit relationship with Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams), he’d be much too devastating a loss. From a practical standpoint, the show recently parted ways with Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), so the idea of voluntarily axing another main character seems risky.
All in all, we’d say that Flueger is simply enjoying a UK sojourn before he gets back to work in the Windy City!
