One Chicago is still going strong. It’s been over a decade since Chicago Fire premiered on NBC, and the show, along with spinoffs Chicago Med and Chicago PD, are still drawing sizable ratings for the network.
In addition to the long-term success, Chicago Fire has helped pave the way for other franchise and shows that are popular, including Fire Country and the 9-1-1 franchise. It’s a formula that’s proven immensely successful, and some fans are wondering if One Chicago creator Dick Wolf is interested in adding another spinoff to the lineup.
Is there a new One Chicago show?
It wouldn’t be the first time Wolf attempted a fourth One Chicago show. Chicago Justice premiered in 2017, and starred cast members from Chicago PD, but it failed to connect with audiences, and was cancelled after just one season.
NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt later told Deadline that Chicago Justice was scrapped because it was a little too similar to another Dick Wolf show. “It was the closest to a Law and Order show, so we thought maybe this is the one we should sacrifice,” he explained. “But it wasn’t because the show wasn’t good, it was really because a lot of other factors.”
A new One Chicago spinoff would have to avoid this similarity if it wanted to avoid cancellation. That being said, the budgetary details we know about NBC suggests that Wolf and company will have to wait before pitching.

NBC renewed all three One Chicago shows last month, but in addition to doing so, they revealed that the plan is to cut down on the budget costs by removing secondary characters from certain episodes. If someone is on every episode of Chicago PD, for example, the next season will see them be absent from a handful of episodes so that production will be cheaper.
It’s unfortunate that these changes have been made, but our guess is that it will take another year or two, plus some getting used to the new rules, before Wolf is ready to launch another entry of the franchise.
