Chicago PD has been a ratings juggernaut on NBC for over a decade, but there was some discussion that the network may consider changing its time slot in 2024.

Mike Lazarus, the Chairman of NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, introduced the idea that the network would cut its late-night programming and give it over to affiliate stations in an effort to maximize profits earlier this year. If approved, the change would have led to a reshuffling of the One Chicago lineup, as there would only be space for two of the three shows on Wednesday.

When does Chicago PD come back?

Fortunately, the idea appears to have been squashed by the network. Jeff Bader, the President of Entertainment Program Planning Strategy for NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, told TV Line that the One Chicago lineup on Wednesday will be left untouched, as will the rest of the titles that air at 10pm throughout the week. “As far as we’re concerned, we are laying out schedules for the future that include the 10 o’clock hour,” Bader concluded.

Chicago PD fans can breath a sigh of relief, as it would have likely been the show that got moved to another evening. Some fans initially theorized that PD would be moved up in the Wednesday lineup, and that Chicago Med would get the boot to another night, but either way, the change would have likely hurt the ratings for the franchise.

Part of the One Chicago appeal is getting to see all three shows air on the same night. This is especially the case when you have a crossover event, or even a story that overlaps between two of the three shows. If the lineup were to be broken up, then subsequent connections would lose their sense of continuity.

Given that NBC recently decided to limit the appearances of certain cast members to cut down on One Chicago budgets, fans can look at the time slot confirmation as a silver lining in what looks to be a changing network landscape.
