One Chicago star on recent cameo: ‘It’s the last time’
We all loved seeing Natalie Manning return on Chicago Med. It had only been a year since the character last appeared, but it felt like she hadn’t missed a step when she walked into Gaffney Medical Center and reunited with Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss).
It was a fitting send-off for both characters, and one that suggests that they are going to live a happy life together in Seattle. It’s not the only time time Med pulled this trick out in season 8. The season also saw the wedding of Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta), with the two of them moving on to different (albeit nearby) positions in the medical world.
Is Torrey DeVitto returning to Chicago Med?
Tee told that he’d be open to reprising his role in the future, but actress who plays Manning, Torrey DeVitto, is less inclined to give more of her character’s story.
The actress talked about her season 8 cameo with Entertainment Tonight. She admitted that it was great to slip back into the shoes of a character she’d left behind, but felt that the moment that Manning and Halstead shared together was a perfect ending.
“So satisfying! I loved that they ended up together,” DeVitto noted. “I was always rooting for them. Right now I think it is the last time you will see them together, but I guess in the land of Dick Wolf, ya never know…”

While the door is somewhat left open, the fact that DeVitto is leaning towards the finale being the “last time” makes sense. Both Manning and Halstead have been through so much turmoil over the course of the show, and knowing that they found peace in each other is poetic.
Bringing them back for a cameo, and perhaps even digging into relationship problems as a result, would serve to undermine the perfection of their final scene. Let them be!
