Chicago Fire has been a game-changer for television. There have been dozens of shows over the past decade that have copied its format, and its interconnected world. The latest show to branch off from Chicago Fire, LA Fire & Rescue, is a little bit different because it’s actually produced by the creator of the former: Dick Wolf.

LA Fire & Rescue, which will premiere this Wednesday, is a documentary series that delves into the current state of the Los Angeles Fire Department. It will also look at the firefighters who put their lives at risk to protect civilians across 59 different cities.

Is LA Fire & Rescue connected to Chicago Fire?

Dick Wolf knows how to make exciting and thought-provoking television, so it’s safe to assume that LA Fire & Rescue will tap into the same strengths as Chicago Fire. The difference, of course, is that what we’re seeing is real, which is an aspect Chicago Fire star David Eigenberg has helped to promote.

“We have a bunch of wonderful people on Chicago Fire… and being here for the day with these first responders and firefighters [from the LACoFD], they are wonderful people,” the actor told TV Line. “[Viewers are] going to get to spend time with a family of people, and we have a family in Chicago of our fellow actors and some of the real firefighters.”

Chicago Fire has been praised for its authenticity and attention to detail, especially compared to other firefighting shows. The character of Tony, for example, is played by real-life firefighter Tony Ferraris. That said, LA Fire & Rescue will be able to depict situations that even the most attentive scripted dramas have not attempted.

“We can’t show certain stuff, and these guys are going to,” Eigenberg added. “And you’re going to see some stuff that is going to show the best in humanity and all these men and women.”

While nothing will replace Chicago Fire in the hearts of fans, it’s nice to get a show from the same creative team to hold us over until season 12 premieres.
