What’s next for Jay Halstead in Chicago PD season 11?
Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) is gone. He’s been gone since the mid-season finale of season 10. That being said, his character continues to play a crucial role on Chicago PD due to his marriage to Upton (Tracy Spiridakos). Does this mean we will get more of his character in season 11?
Well, yes and no. It’s highly unlikely that Halstead will make a physical appearance in season 11, but the show is going to have to continue to reference him, and perhaps even show Upton getting phone calls from him if they want to provide a somewhat satisfying conclusion to their marriage.
Is Jesse Lee Soffer returning to Chicago PD?
Halstead’s departure could not have come at a worse time for Upton. They’ve been married for less than a year, and already he’s decided to quit his job and relocate to Central America to fend off drug cartels. It’s not ideal, and to make matters worse, Halstead has stopped communicating with Upton on a regular basis.
When Upton was kidnapped toward the end of season 10, and had to fight her way out, Halstead didn’t even know about it because he hadn’t been returning her calls. It was a heartbreaking turn of events for both parties, and it led Upton to take off her wedding ring.

Things do not look optimistic for Halstead and Upton heading into season 11. The latter is gone for what seems to be for good, and Upton is going to have to move on with her life in Chicago. Voight (Jason Beghe) said as much, and you could tell how much it bothered him to bear witness.
What’s next for Halstead in season 11 is a couple references and then, most likely, a divorce. He and Upton can’t stay together if he can’t even muster a phone call or an update about when he plans to come home (if he ever does).
