Chicago PD star teases Burzek romance in season 11

Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) have not had the easiest run on Chicago PD. The former has suffered through PTSD and the kidnapping of her daughter Makayla (Ramona Edith Williams) and the latter was shot in the stomach and is currently fighting for his life.

Through it all, though, Burgess and Ruzek have managed to get closer than ever. They have helped each other through these trying times, and there was even the suggestion that they could reignite their romantic relationship toward the end of season 10.

Will Burgess and Ruzek get married on Chicago PD?

LaRoyce Hawkins sure think so. The actor, who plays Atwater, discussed the chances of seeing Burgess and Ruzek get together during a recent interview with Us Magazine, and he made clear that he’s rooting for them.

“You gotta imagine Atwater’s probably tired of hearing both of them talk about each other,” the actor humorously said. “Now y’all really just need to get a room and get a life with each other!” The couple have been on and off with their romance for a few seasons now, so it makes sense they would eventually land on a decision.

Hawkins had more to say on the matter, though. In addition to his belief that the characters will get together, he thinks his character should actually serve as the officiate at their wedding, given how close he is with both of them.

"“This is something a lot of people don’t know about me, I’m certified to marry people,” he added. “I consider Burgess and Ruzek to be family, and I think Atwater should get first right refusal to actually marry [them]. That’s what we wanna see.”"

While the notion of Atwater officiating is fun, Marina Squerciati had a different read on how a marriage between Burgess and Ruzek would go down. She told Us Magazine that she envisions a short and sweet ceremony officiated by Voight (Jason Beghe). “[They’d] have some chips and then, like, never talk about it again and just be together,” she joked.

While the jury remains out on what will happen to Ruzek in season 11, we sincerely hope he gets a chance to resume things with Burgess.
