What’s next for Kevin Atwater in Chicago PD season 11?
Kevin Atwater had some interesting personal developments in Chicago PD season 9, but he took more of a backseat to the rest of the IU in season 10. He helped co-workers like Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) and Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) through difficult times, and even took down the main villain of the season in a hostage standoff.
It’s unclear where the character is headed next, but the actor who plays him, LaRoyce Hawkins, has some ideas. He recently sat down for an interview with Us Weekly, and he said that he’d like to see Atwater get back into the dating game in season 11.
Is LaRoyce Hawkins returning to Chicago PD?
"“[I’m] definitely hoping,” Hawkins revealed. “I think that’s what makes well-rounded characters. To be able to feel that romance piece. That heartbreak or that redemption. I think there’s a lot in that. And that’s fun to explore. So I look forward to doing some of that too. I can’t say that I will. [I] can’t say that I won’t, but I’m ready either way.”"
The actor makes a good point. Atwater became an exponentially more interesting character when his romantic life was written into the show, and has continued to be a source of interesting drama for him, as evidenced by season 9.

On a lighter note, Hawkins proposed that Ruzek and Burgess (Marina Squerciati) should finally get together in season 11, and that his character should be the one to officiate the wedding ceremony. “I consider Burgess and Ruzek to be family,” he added. “I think Atwater should get first right refusal to actually marry [them]. That’s what we wanna see.”
While it’s wishful thinking to assume that Ruzek and Burgess will get hitched so soon, the notion of them finally settling down together was teased in Chicago PD season 10. Assuming Ruzek will survive his gunshot wound, we see a very real possibility that they will take the next step in their relationship. And now we know Hawkins will be on hand to officiate!
