Jesse Lee Soffer has pretty much gone silent since he left Chicago PD. There were a few exit interviews, and a brief return to direct an episode, but for the most part, the actor has kept quiet. That is, until the Fourth of July weekend. Soffer took to Instagram to provide a fun update on his life and to show fans that he’s enjoying his post-show career.
The actor posted a photo of himself with a praying mantis on his shoulder. “How’s your summer going? Mine’s cool,” he wrote in the caption. “A baby praying mantis landed on my arm.” It’s a silly post from an actor who likes to play against his stoic Chicago PD persona on social media.
Is Jesse Lee Soffer returning to Chicago PD?
The post received likes from Chicago PD stars Tracy Spiridakos and LaRoyce Hawkins, confirming that Soffer has remained friendly with the cast despite deciding to leave early in season 10. Both Squerciati and Hawkins sang the praises of Soffer when he directed the episode “Deadlocked.”
"“Jesse’s such a talented guy,” Hawkins told Us Magazine. “And he’s been doing this for so long. His eye is very well seasoned when it comes to just pictures and frames. We trusted him right away. We knew that he had that director bug in him and we were excited to watch it activate. We’re looking forward to working with him again.”"

It’s especially nice to see Spiridakos and Soffer being friendly on social media, given the fraught situation their characters are currently going through on Chicago PD. As Halstead and Upton, the recently married couple, the two of them are headed for a painful divorce. Their issues have been brought on by the fact that Halstead has decided to leave the country and cut off most of his contact with Upton.
It remains to be seen whether Soffer will make a cameo as Halstead in season 11, but based on his previously stated desire to challenge himself artistically, we won’t hold our breath.
