Fire Country star teases Gabriela arc in season 2

Fire Country season 1 was tough on Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila). The character developed a romance with Bode (Max Theriot), but needless to say, the latter’s legal troubles have put any hopes for a peaceful relationship on hold. Bode is currently serving jail time, and Gabriela has little more than hope to cling to in terms of their future.

While this could, theoretically, leave the door open for the Olympic Medalist Kyle (Kanoa Goo) to make a move, actress Stephanie Arcila isn’t convinced. She recently talked to TV Line about her character’s arc n in season 2, and how romance may not factor into that arc at all.

Are Bode and Gabriela still together on Fire Country?

Instead of diving into another romance, Gabriela will be taking a step back and focusing on herself.  “I think what Gabriela will do right now is take some space,” Arcila told the outlet. “I don’t think she would jump into something right away.” It makes sense, given the emotional turmoil the character went through when she realized Bode was behind bars.

Given that Fire Country has gotten so popular so fast, it’s easy to forget that the show has only been on for one season. The season did a great job of establishing each of the characters, but there is still lots of elements to explore, and placing Gabriela in a different emotional context makes perfect sense for progressing the show.

“Even in a moment in her life where she has no control over everything that’s happening, she will do her best,” Arcila added. The desire to exert control over what has been, admittedly, a wild ride since the pilot, makes perfect sense. There’s also the possibility that Gabriela and Bode will get back together at some point.

When asked about the couple’s future, Fire Country showrunner Tia Napolitano told TV Line: “The sky’s the limit. Nothing is set in stone, so you’re just going to have to tune in and find out.”
