Darren Ritter is one of the most steady presences on Chicago Fire. The character is always there to help out his 51 pals, and offer advice when they find themselves in a complicated situation.

He gets into complication situations of his own, sometimes, as evidenced by his confrontation with the crooked City Treasurer Don Ramsey (David Lee), but it’s been a while since we’ve gotten to see the character delve into a personal relationship.

Daniel Kyri, the actor who plays Ritter, would like to see that change. During a recent interview with TV Insider, Kyri discussed the possibility of Ritter getting a love interest in season 12.

Who is Ritter dating on Chicago Fire?

Well, technically a love interest. Kyri actually threw out the possibility of seeing Ritter get into a love triangle in season 12, which is a situation fans have never gotten to see him in before.

“I think that’d be really fun. I think Ritter is confident and competent, but also, when it comes to matters of the heart, he’s kind of a kid,” the actor noted. “So I think it’d be just kind of fun to see what that would be like.” It would be a nice change of pace, given that Ritter played a background role in the love triangle between Violet (Hanako Greensmith), Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas) and Gallo (Alberto Rosende) in season 10.

Kyri expanded on the desire to see more of Ritter’s love life get fleshed out, and cited a crucial scene between him and Herrmann (David Eigenberg) as one of his favorites in the entire show.

“I think one that sticks out right now that’s pretty appropriate is the scene where my character, Ritter, comes out for the first time to his beloved Lieutenant Herrmann,” the actor recalled. “And it’s one of my favorite scenes because I like working with David Eigenberg, and it was just a beautiful non-event, which we need more of.”

Regardless of where things go in season 12, we hope Ritter gets a chance to find romance!
