Will Severide and Casey reunite in Chicago Fire season 12?
Casey (Jesse Spencer) and Severide (Taylor Kinney) are the dynamic duo of Chicago Fire. They represented differing approaches to firefighting when the show premiered, and despite their differences, they became great friends.
The Casey and Severide dynamic powered the first ten seasons of the show, but it’s something we’ve been missing due over the last two years due to the availability of the actors. Will we get a chance to see them back together in season 12? Will there be a triumphant Casey and Severide reunion to appease the fans?
Are Severide and Casey still friends on Chicago Fire?
For context, the last time both characters were shown onscreen together was the season 10 finale. Severide was getting married, and Casey, who had officially left episodes earlier, came back to serve as best man. It was a terrific sendoff, and it gave fans a chance to see the two men bond in a way that they rarely did when they were on the job.
Severide and Casey were present throughout season 11, but this is the season where their duo act splintered. Severide was present for the first leg of the season, but Taylor Kinney’s decision to take a leave of absence from the show meant that the character was quickly written out. Casey came back, in what seemed to be an effort to smooth Severide’s exit, but they just missed seeing each other by an episode.
The same thing happened in the season 11 finale. Casey returned, and even proposed to Brett (Kara Killmer), but Severide was still missing in action. He was helping ATF with an important case somewhere else in the country, despite not telling his wife about it.

The cliffhanger ending of season 11, in which the answer to Casey’s proposal wasn’t given, and the plan for Severide’s future wasn’t laid out, will undoubtedly get figured out in season 12. The thing is, depending on how long Casey plans on sticking around, we may get another instance of one character leaving right before the other comes back.
The silver lining is this: assuming Brett does say yes to Casey’s proposal, Severide will likely be the best man at the wedding. It only seems fair that he return the favor.
