Chicago Fire is not known for its awards. The firefighting drama is more of a ratings juggernaut than a critical darling, and yet, it was one of the shows nominated for by 2023’s Best Broadcast Network Drama Series by the Hollywood Critics Association.

The category, which has ten nominations total, is stacked with other procedural shows like 9-1-1 and Grey’s Anatomy and, as well as Dick Wolf-produced shows like Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU. Surprisingly, Chicago Fire was the only firefighting show to make the cut.

Is Chicago Fire nominated for awards?

The Hollywood Critics Association have only been around for a couple of years (the upcoming event will be its third), but this is the first time that any of the One Chicago shows have been nominating in the broadcast network category. Or any category, for that matter.

While Chicago Fire has never had the privilege of being nominated for a Golden Globe or an Emmy, the show has actually accumulated a decent collection of awards. According to IMDb, Chicago Fire has been nominated for 23 awards to date, including the recent HCA nomination.

Some of these nominations include Best Primetime Program – Drama and Best Supporting Actor – Television for Joe Minoso at the Imagen Fountain Awards. The show was nominated twice in the former category, in 2017 and 2022, and Minoso was nominated six times between 2013-18. The only Imagen Fountain Award that Chicago Fire has taken home has been Best Actress – Television for Monica Raymund in 2013.

The show has also been nominated for several Prism Awards, People’s Choice Awards, and Teen Choice Awards. It’s worth noting that most of these nominations came during the show’s first few seasons, which it was still a relatively unique phenomenon to have a firefighting show.

Chicago Fire has influenced so many firefighting shows, including Fire Country and Station 19, that it can sometimes be easy to forget how influential it really is. Either way, we’ll be pulling for it to win at the upcoming HCA Awards!
