One Chicago has been the Windy City franchise for the past decade. The name of the city is in each of the show’s titles! Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago PD all shoot on location, and go out of their way to reference/showcase local landmarks. That being said, there’s a new Chicago show in town, and it’s taken the internet by storm.

The Bear, which just released its second season on FX, has been praised as one of the best shows on television right now. It was recently nominated for a whopping Emmy Awards, confirming that it has legitimate pull with fans critics. But did you know that Chicago Med and The Bear have more than a setting in common? There’s an actor who appears in both shows…

Is Oliver Platt on The Bear?

The actor in question is Oliver Platt. He has been a part of the Chicago Med cast from the start, and has proven to be one of the show’s most reliable supporting actors. As Daniel Charles, Platt brings a sense of experience and measured calm, which contrasts nicely with some of his younger co-stars. He also values the time he’s been able to spend in Chicago.

"“On a personal level, that’s one of the really exciting parts of this particular job,” Platt told the Chicago Sun Times in 2015. “In the past, working a movie, I would take advantage of my days off to fly home to New York to be with my family. … I spent a lot of time hanging out in Grant Park and Millennium Park [now], getting to know ‘The Bean,’ as its affectionately called, or ‘Cloudgate’.”"

The actor wasn’t kidding, and has since booked a crucial role on The Bear. He plays Uncle Jimmy, the weary family member of the show’s main character, Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White). It’s unclear whether Uncle Jimmy is involved with organized crime in the Windy City, but the character does a lot to imply that he has illegal connections.

Uncle Jimmy is a scene-stealer, and a crucial part of Carmy’s dream to open the titular restaurant. We can’t wait to see what he gets up to while Dr. Charles treats patients across town in 2024.
