Violet (Hanako Greensmith) has had a rough few years on Chicago Fire. It really seemed like she was going to settle down and live happily ever after with Hawkins (Jimmy Nicholas), but his tragic death in a building fire sent the character spiraling. She’s struggled to process her grief for most of season 11, but the finale suggested that she may be ready for something (and someone) new.

The someone in question is Sam Carver (Jake Lockett). While there hasn’t been a ton of shared screen time between Carver and Violet, there was some definite flirtation going on in the final episode. So much so, that Brett (Kara Killmer) poked fun at Violet for having a crush on Carver.

Who is Violet dating on Chicago Fire?

It’s unclear whether the writers will pursue a Carver-Violet romance in season 12, but it would be a clever way to write both characters out of the complex dynamics they’re currently dealing with. Violet has had to reassess her feelings towards Gallo (Alberto Rosende), and attempts to get into something more serious with the firefighter led to some honest, albeit uncomfortable talks.

Gallo may have had a point when he suggested that Violet is filling the void left by Hawkins with Gallo, instead of truly wanting to get involved with him. Carver’s co-worker situations aren’t any less messy. He’s grown close with Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) during his time at the 51, to a point where a distressed Kidd called him for help, rather than phone her traveling husband, Severide (Taylor Kinney).

No lines have been crossed, but the intensity of the Carver and Kidd interactions lead us to think that there are some underlying feelings. Carver has also been hooking up with OFI officer Wendy Seager (Andy Allo), though he’s made it clear that he doesn’t see a legitimate future with her.

It would be both unexpected and interesting if Carver and Violet found in each other what they’ve been looking for in other people. We will patiently wait to find out if it happens in season 12.
