Is Fire Country S2 coming back in the fall of 2023?
Fire Country really took fans by storm in season 1. It was a ratings hit from the word go, so it was no surprise that CBS decided it to renew it for an additional season. The assumption was that the show would return, like most fall shows, some time in September, which would give the writers and cast members plenty of time to work on new episodes.
That was before the strikes. The writers and the actors are currently on strike for better working conditions, and as such, all production has ceased on films and TV shows. Fire Country is coming back, but much later than we initially thought.
Is Fire Country season 2 delayed?
CBS recently issued an update to their fall schedule, which has ditched a lot of the scripted dramas and placed the focus on reruns and/or reality shows. The time slots usually filled by new episodes of NCIS and FBI will be filled by reruns, and reality shows like Buddy Games, Lotería Loca, Raid the Cage and docuseries FBI TRUE are being fast tracked because they don’t rely on writers or actors.
Fire Country is nowhere to be found in the revised fall lineup, according to TV Line. This confirms that the show will not be ready for September, and will instead have to be pushed back to 2024 alongside NCIS and FBI. To further complicate matters, the delay will mean that Fire Country will have less time to prepare new episodes, and a smaller window in which to air them, so the odds are high that season 2 will be about half the length of season 1.

A similar change occurred during the last writers strike. Due to the time crunch and the demand for scripts, shows like The Office, Scrubs, and Heroes were given seasons with fewer episodes. It’s also a way of ensuring that quality can be maintained, rather than stretching writers in an attempt to maintain quantity.
While it’s disappointing, we understand the reasons that led to both the writers and actors going on strike, and hope they are able to have their conditions met before production resumes.
