Ever since Chicago PD wrapped its tenth season in May, fans have been eager for news about the upcoming season. Typically, during the show’s summer hiatus, we start to get hints of what’s to come next season with July bringing about the start of filming on the new season. Instead, this summer has been relatively quiet without much news coming out about season 11.

A large part of the quiet news from this summer comes from the fact that this summer has not been a usual summer.

In May, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike after failing to reach a deal with the studios and has remained on strike ever since. Fast forward to July, and the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) joined the writers in going on strike after also failing to strike a new deal with studios.

With the writers and actors on strike, production on season 11 is on hold as the writers cannot work on scripts for the season. And with the actors on strike now as well, even if there were scripts ready, filming cannot begin with the cast on strike. So what does this mean for Chicago PD?

Chicago PD release updates: Why season 11 isn’t coming this fall

Due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production on Chicago PD season 11 is currently on hold and will not begin until both unions reach new deals with the studios. Unfortunately, it’s looking unlikely that deals will be inked anytime soon which means production cannot begin this summer — which is when the One Chicago shows typically begin work for their fall seasons.

With production on hold, NBC has been forced to delay the return of Chicago PD and the One Chicago meaning the shows will not be coming this fall. Instead, NBC has shifted all three One Chicago shows to its midseason lineup meaning fans will have to wait until 2024 for new episodes of their favorite One Chicago series.

Although new episodes of the One Chicago series will not be coming in the fall, NBC will be airing One Chicago returns at 8/7c on Wednesday nights in the fall beginning on October 4. These One Chicago reruns will then lead into new episodes of Quantum Leap and Magnum P.I., which will take over the spots typically occupied by new episodes of Chicago Fire and Chicago PD.

What remains a mystery is how NBC will rotate in these One Chicago reruns, as well as exactly how far into 2024 fans will have to wait for the One Chicago shows to premiere on NBC.
