5 things we want to see in Chicago Fire season 12 (and 2 things we don’t)
By Cody Schultz
As Chicago Fire season 11 came to a close, there were a lot of loose ends left to be tied up which has given us a lot to talk about during the offseason.
Casey got down on one knee to ask Brett to marry him, this after she received word that she was going to be able to adopt Julie. Kidd was leaving town to try to track down Severide and bring him back home. Kylie’s number was called, meaning she’s going to get the chance to go to the academy. And then there was the biggest cliffhanger of them all that came as Mouch began flat-lining after his injury spot reopened.
Chicago Fire fans have got a long hiatus ahead of us now that NBC has announced season 12 won’t arrive until 2024, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start speculating about what exactly we want to see happen when the next season arrives!
Want: Casey and Brett to finally get a happy ending
We don’t yet know the status of Jesse Spencer and whether he’ll be returning to the cast in a larger role for season 12, but what we do know is that we want to see Casey and Brett finally get their happy ending next season. Brettsey has been through so much over the years and we’re not ready to have to go through Brett turning down Casey’s proposal.
Want: To see Kylie’s time at the academy
Now that we know Kylie has been accepted into the academy, we’d love to see her journey continue on the show by getting a glimpse into her time at the academy. Sure, we understand if the show can’t dedicate too much time to the academy storyline but we really hope they don’t have Kylie’s time training to become a firefighter happen off-screen. We’ve already seen her come so far and we’d love to see her make it past the finish line with this major step in her career.
Don’t Want: Mouch to die!
We know things were not looking good for Mouch when we last saw him, but we’re really hoping that the writers will spare 51’s longtime firefighter. We’d accept if Mouch perhaps chooses to walk away from the job after his brush with death, but that we could accept. What we can’t accept is the idea of losing Mouch after all these seasons!
Want: A romantic storyline for Ritter
Ritter hasn’t exactly been lucky in love over the years, but it’s time that finally changes! There is nothing more we want to see next season than for Ritter to finally meet a sweet and charming guy who doesn’t throw up red flags after a few dates and sticks around for the long haul.

Want: Some surprise Chicago Fire returns
There is nothing better than seeing familiar faces checking back into Firehouse 51. In season 11, we saw many familiar faces making their way back to town including Casey and Seager. With the show’s next season, we’d love to see a few other familiar faces pop back up after extended times away. Characters like Peter Mills, Donna Boden, Emily Foster, and Jason Pelham.
Don’t Want: Severide to leave 51 for good
One of the most shocking moments of Chicago Fire season 11 was the unexpected exit of Severide due to Taylor Kinney’s unexpected leave of absence. The final episodes of the season just weren’t quite the same without Severide around and there is nothing we want more than for Severide to return to 51 full-time as we can’t imagine the show without Severide.
Want: Kidd to bring Severide home
Perhaps this is a cheat since we just said we don’t want Severide to leave the show, but what can we say we really miss him! Season 11 ended with Kidd leaving town to bring Severide back after his extended time away from 51, so let’s hope season 12 begins with the pair returning together rather than Kidd returning alone!
