Law and Order: SVU season 25 gets disappointing release update from NBC
By Cody Schultz
Law and Order: SVU will be returning for another season, but the wait for season 25 is going to be longer than fans had originally anticipated.
Typically, Law and Order: SVU like most fall series takes the summer off before returning in late September or early October to kick off the next season. However, NBC has released its new schedule for the fall, and SVU season 25 is not among the shows coming this September.
The move is not only disappointing but also will mark the first time Law and Order: SVU has not aired as part of NBC’s fall lineup since 1999. It’s also the first time a Law and Order franchise series will not be airing new episodes in the fall since 1990. So what exactly is the reason for the change?
Why isn’t Law and Order: SVU coming back this fall?
Like many shows, Law and Order: SVU has been directly affected by the ongoing writers and actors strikes which will prevent production on the show’s upcoming twenty-fifth season from beginning in time for the show to premiere this fall.
Typically production on new seasons of Law and Order: SVU will begin in July as the writers begin writing scripts for the season and the actors head to set shortly after to begin filming. However, with the actors and writers on strike, production will not be able to resume until new deals are reached between the studios and the unions.

With production set to be delayed, NBC has pushed Law and Order: SVU to midseason which means fans will have to wait until early 2024 for the next season to begin.
