Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) is the most recent addition to the Chicago PD cast. He was brought in as a protege for Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), and wound up becoming a replacement when the latter quit the force and left Chicago. Torres has proven to be a capable officer, but a few details about his past has made his future increasingly uncertain.

Torres was notably absent from the season 10 finale, which had many fans scratching their heads and wondering if the character was gone for good. Voight (Jason Beghe) told the rest of the IU that Torres was visiting his mother at the Mayo Clinic, but was it a narrative decision or a way of letting the character down easy?

Is Torres leaving Chicago PD season 11?

Thankfully, Torres will be returning to Chicago PD in season 11. It looks as though the choice to take him out of the season finale was merely to allow more screen time for the characters who drove the main narrative, like Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) and Kim Burgess (Marina Squierciati). It’s a bit unclear as to whether Torres will return within the world of the show, but it has been confirmed behind the scenes.

Benjamin Levy Aguilar talked about the joy of working on Chicago PD, and how much he’s picked up from his fellow actors, during a recent interview with Hello! Magazine. “[I’ve learned] how to  follow my gut, no matter what, and how to collaborate and sharpen my process. I know what I need in what moment and in what scenes, and how to feel and how to get there,” he explained. “It’s just been a great exercise for me.”

The actor then confirmed that he would be coming back for season 11, and even pointed out that he would like to see different kids of stories for Torres, given the consistently gritty direction that most of them took in season 10. “I’d like to explore happy moments for Torres! More of his past: there’s so much more, and I would love to experience that,” he noted.

Aguilar’s upcoming list of projects (or lack their of) is another indicator that he will be staying put on Chicago PD. Generally, when actors near the end of their run on a show, they start booking gigs on other shows and films. Aguilar appeared in the Netflix series The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022), but he doesn’t have any other projects booked for 2024, which means he will have plenty of time to roam the streets of Chicago as Torres.

While it’s unclear whether Aguilar will be getting the happy moments he alluded to, it’s nice to know he will be around to flesh out the character of Torres more in the upcoming season. His involvement in the show has become even more crucial on the heels of the news that Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) will be leaving PD in season 11.

Upton will be the second high-profile character to leave the show in as many seasons, so the need for new and exciting officers like Torres is stronger than ever. If the writers permit, Torres can be a huge part of Chicago PD‘s future.
