Nobody expected to see. Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) in the Chicago Med finale, but she was the perfect character to help Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) transition out of the show. Will decided to leave the Windy City and move to Seattle to live with Manning and her son.

While both Halstead and Manning end the episode by heading back to Seattle, there are some fans who are curious as to whether the characters will appear in season 9. Perhaps a cameo or a brief appearance in the season premiere?

Is Natalie Manning returning to Chicago Med?

Torrey DeVitto discussed the possibility of returning during a recent interview with ET, and while she made it clear that she doesn’t have specific plans, she’s open to future discussions with Dick Wolf. “Right now I think it is the last time you will see them together, but I guess in the land of Dick Wolf, ya never know…,” she revealed.

Keeping the door open is encouraging, especially when one considers how much fun DeVitto had stepping back into the role of Manning. She also felt like Manning didn’t get the ending that she deserved, and was eager to provide more of a sense of closure than when she left during season 8.

"“[Nick] and I both felt like our characters didn’t get the ending they both deserved together, so it was really nice being able to come back and give them that happily ever after,” DeVitto noted. “Stepping back into Natalie’s shoes felt like coming back home and seeing family. It felt like no time had passed. She will always be such a big part of me. It was a joy getting to step back into her [shoes]."

To DeVitto’s point about closure, there would be less of an incentive to bring her back for season 9 than the season 8 finale, so it might be for the best that she remain offscreen and happy with her son and Halstead. As of right now, it seems this will be plan.
