Chicago PD is not on the air, and will not be for the rest of 2023, but that doesn’t mean fans are not being given exciting updates by the cast. Several of the cast members involved with the show have been picketing in Hollywood as part of the actors strike, and some have even posted about it on social media.

The best of these has undoubtedly been on Jesse Lee Soffer’s Instagram. The actor left Chicago PD during season 10, so it was especially fun to see him on the picket line next to his former co-star and (current) onscreen wife, Tracy Spiridakos.

Soffer and Spiridakos, who play Halstead and Upton, respectively, posed for a photo that also included Chicago Fire executive producer Derek Haas. “Team, assemble!” read the caption, which makes sense given that Soffer is still involved with Chicago PD as an occasional director.

It was tough to see the character of Halstead leave PD in season 10, especially given that he had just gotten married to Upton. It was even tougher to see him gradually create distance, both in a literal and metaphorical sense. He stopped answering Upton’s phone calls, and had been so aloof towards his wife that she decided to take her wedding ring off towards the end of the season.

We assume that season 11 will shed light on their marriage, which seems all but certainly leading to divorce. That being said, there’s a bit of solace in getting to see Soffer and Spiridakos, who are still good friends, hanging out while protesting a cause they both believe in. Spiridakos was very complementive of Soffer’s directing on the episode “Deadlocked.”

“Director Jesse made his debut, and he killed it you guys,” she wrote on Instagram. “We are all so proud.” While it would be nice to see the character of Halstead return at some point, to give fans a sense of closure, we can at least take solace in the fact that Soffer remains an integral part of the franchise behind the scenes.
