911: Lone Star has been renewed for an additional season on FOX. The first responder drama continues to be a ratings juggernaut for the network, and the exciting set pieces, coupled with the talented ensemble cast, have ensured that fans want to see more. Unfortunately, it will be a while before the fans get more.

911: Lone Star is not going to be airing its fifth season in 2023. While it was initially renewed with the idea of airing during the fall, FOX has been forced to push the show back due to the ongoing writers and actors strikes. It will now be airing some time in 2024.

When is 911: Lone Star season 5 coming out? (Release date predictions)

The tricky part, of course, is determining when in 2024. The most logical assumption on the part of viewers and network executives is that scripted dramas will be ready to go in January 2024. This would be the soonest that historically fall-slated shows can air, and it will give them the biggest amount of time to air episodes.

Unfortunately, the window in which a January release date would be reasonable is closing fast. “Today many network dramas would have begun shooting their 4th episode of the fall season,” wrote former Law & Order showrunner Warren Leight on Twitter. “If the strike were somehow to end by Labor Day, and shooting were to begin in early fall, the networks might be able to salvage a 13 episode season. The clock keeps ticking.”

A show like 911: Lone Star was already going to have an abbreviated season, in that it would be airing closer to 13 episodes than its usual 20-23, but the possibility of a stalemate between the writers and actors guilds and the studios means that we could be looking at less than 13, and a return date later than January.

Deadline proposed a scenario in which scripted shows would not be able to return until May, in which case only 6-8 episodes would be able to air before the networks would have to turn things over to the summer lineup. We hope it doesn’t get to that.
