Tough, tough season of Chicago Fire for Herrmann (David Eigenberg). The character had to deal with his wife’s lung cancer diagnosis, and the possibility that he will lose her, then, in the season finale, he had to stand by while his friend, Mouch (Christian Stolte), was shot by a sniper. Things didn’t look good as the episode ended, and we still don’t know whether Mouch will make it.

All things considered, Herrmann has done a great job of keeping it together. Most people would have crumbled under these various tragedies, and yet, he keeps right on plugging along, doing his job and helping other members of the 51 squad. It’s impossible to imagine the firehouse without him.

Is Herrmann leaving Chicago Fire season 12?

Thankfully, we don’t have to. Herrmann will be coming back for season 12. It would be both quite odd if he didn’t given the proximity he has to the aforementioned storylines, which will certainly be addressed in the season premiere. Herrmann will hopefully help his wife get through her chemo treatments, and Mouch recover from his gunshot wound.

Before the actors strike, David Eigenberg was actually one of the busiest Chicago Fire cast members. He joined forces with the real life firefighters who make up the show LA Fire & Rescue, and helped to promote it, as it’s also produced by Dick Wolf. He praised the efforts of real men and women, and said that the show goes places that Chicago Fire cannot.

“We can’t show certain stuff, and these guys are going to,” he told TV Line. “And you’re going to see some stuff that is going to show the best in humanity and all these men and women.” He also talked about the fear of losing the Mouch character during a separate TV Line interview.

“I don’t know what they’re going to do, but I don’t want to lose Christian because it’d be a huge hole in my life,” Eigenberg explained. “I don’t want to lose anybody on the show. We’ve got a great group. We don’t have any jerks.” We hope he doesn’t have to lose Mouch either!
